AS Roma: Paulo Dybala talks about his complicated mercato

Not extended at Juventus Turin at the end of last season, Paulo Dybala finally joined AS Roma, where he was presented to the press on Tuesday. The Argentinian spoke about his turbulent summer.

Paulo Dybala’s summer has been complicated. At the end of his contract with Juventus, the 28-year-old Argentine did not extend his contract with the Turin club and finally left on June 30. Courted by several European teams, including Inter Milan, who made him a priority for a while, he finally committed to AS Roma to work under Jose Mourinho. A summer heavily agitated for the Argentine international, which he agreed to return during his presentation conference on Tuesday.

First, the striker returned to his sad departure from the Old Lady. “The general manager (Maurizio, ed.) Arrivabene was clear in his statements. We had an agreement to sign in October, the club asked us to wait and nothing. In March we received an information from the club saying that I was not part of the future project. It was not a financial problem, but the club took a different path with the coach, I spoke with them. I said that if it was their choice, it was not a problem for me.

“I was not betrayed by Inter Milan”

He also returned to his false arrival at Inter Milan, which was however one of the first clubs to be interested in him before quickly dropping this track to favor the return of Romelu Lukaku. “I did not feel betrayed by Inter. Since the end of my contract with Juve, my agents have talked to many teams. You (the media) have talked a lot about some teams in particular. Marotta (Inter Milan’s sporting director) and I have a good relationship. At some point, Tiago Pinto (AS Roma’s DS) arrived in Turin and things changed.”

Finally left for Roma, where he signed a contract until June 30, 2025, Paulo Dybala admits that he was seduced by Jose Mourinho and Francesco Totti. “It was a huge pleasure to talk to Mourinho. I had the pleasure of meeting the president, his son, I spoke with Tiago Pinto. The call of each was a demonstration of affection. The club has given me important reference points, seriousness, enthusiasm. I will try to give the best of myself, to bring my experience to continue winning.” Before the next World Cup 2022, next November, the objective is therefore large for the Joya.
