Asked about Paris Saint-Germain and the possible return of Messi and Neymar, Barça president Joan Laporta was frank.
One man’s misfortune makes another man’s happiness. After the extension of Kylian Mbappé on Saturday, Real Madrid took a huge blow on the head. A news that has been rather well received in Catalonia. Earlier this week, the Spanish press reported that the Blaugrana locker room was jubilant after the failure of the KM7 file. This Wednesday, El Chiringuito published a video where the president Joan Laporta is asked about the Mbappé fiasco and where he answers with a smile: “it is never sad”. Despite this, the blaugrana boss did not appreciate the methods of PSG, which “distorts the market” according to him.
He developed his argument on this point in an interview with L’Esportiu. “Players end up being kidnapped for money and those who sign for PSG have almost signed their slavery. These are the effects that a club that has behind a state. This goes against the principles of the European Union. It is a reflection to have on the sustainability of soccer in Europe”. Despite this, the non-arrival of Mbappé is a boon for him. “There is a direct rival who is not strengthened and we prefer that he can not hinder us in terms of competition”.
Laporta sets conditions for the return of Neymar and / or Messi
Then, the president of Barcelona took the opportunity to continue to tackle PSG. Without saying it directly, he suspects the French champion club to have made an offer to his player, who is at the end of his contract. “They (the Dembélé clan) have our proposal and a date to decide, because there is no more room. We have been preparing for next season for a long time, and this is a problem with which we are stuck, because the agent does not respond to the offer. It looks like they are making a counter offer. There is a priority right now, which is to get the economy back on track.”
So it’s hard to imagine a return of Messi or Neymar, who Paris is pushing out after buying him for 222 million euros in 2017. Laporta is not against it, but he clarified: “Neymar is an exceptional player. I personally like him. Nevertheless, he signed at PSG for a long time (…) If Messi and Neymar want to come back, it will be for free. We are not in a position to make an agreement to transfer these players. But even if we had the ability, we would not do that. It would be illogical. In any case, the coach decides.” The message is clear!
