Europa League Conference: Roma wins the final against Feyenoord!

At the end of a fairly balanced final where both teams had their moments of strength, it is José Mourinho’s Roma that offers Feyenoord (1-0) and thus wins the first C4 in history. The first European trophy in the history of Roma too.

In Tirana, in the small arena of the Arena Kombëtare, AS Roma and Feyenoord, defeated OM in the semi-finals, faced each other for the first final in the history of the Europa League Conference, a new competition. The Italian team, led by José Mourinho, was hoping to win the first European Cup in its history. For this match, the Portuguese coach obviously lined up his typical team and could even count on the return from injury of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, while Feyenoord lined up the same team as in their matches against OM.

In the first half, the Romans showed a face like their C4 season: solid defensively, well set up with some flashes up front. But they did not worry a Feyenoord team that was not very inspired offensively either. Just back from injury, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who had forced his return to play this final, was forced to give up his place after 20 minutes of play. The Italian club eventually opened the scoring thanks to man of the match Nicolò Zaniolo. The 22 year old Italian international perfectly adjusted Bijlow who slightly missed his exit (1-0, 32nd). A goal that had the merit to wake up Feyenoord afterwards.

New trophy for José Mourinho

Arne Slot’s men came back with better intentions after the break and showed it immediately. Seconds after the kick-off, the Dutch hit the post before Rui Patricio miraculously turned away Til’s powerful shot (46′). The in-form goalkeeper kept his side alive with another phenomenal save to keep out Malacia’s powerful shot (49th). Invaluable saves when his team needed it most, because in the second half, Roma was almost only subjected to the game and the Dutch team’s strikers lacked precision in the final movement.

And the more time passed, the more José Mourinho’s team retreated to lock the game and keep the precious advantage. In a style typical of the Special One, Roma kept the lead until the end and won the match to win the first C4 in history. The first European Cup in the history of the Italian team. On his side, after winning the C1 with Porto and Inter Milan, then the C3 with Manchester United and Porto, José Mourinho won the C4 with Roma. The 5th European trophy of his career, his 28th in total. And the Roman city, which had been waiting for a trophy for a very long time, will be able to celebrate until the end of the night (or of the week), given the explosion of joy of the fans at the final whistle.
