FC Barcelona struggles in its downsizing operation

This summer, FC Barcelona is preparing a major project between departures and arrivals. But the Blaugrana have a lot of trouble to clear.

After a particularly disappointing year, FC Barcelona is counting on the next mercato to start again. The idea is to strengthen in different positions, but primarily in attack where Robert Lewandowski is a priority. Raphinha, Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta are also being monitored to complete the squad. At the same time, the Camp Nou residents have to sell players. They have started well with Philippe Coutinho, who has been sold permanently to Aston Villa for 20 million euros, with 50% of the capital gain from a future sale of the player. But the rest of the mercato may be more complicated.

“Nobody wants to leave”, headlines this Wednesday Sport. Xavi could find himself in the pre-season with 30 players on his hands. The blaugrana technician has already informed Óscar Mingueza, Riqui Puig, Martin Braithwaite and Samuel Umtiti that he does not count on them next year. Others could be sacrificed, even important elements. But the problem is that no one in the locker room wants to leave the club explains Sport.

No one wants to leave

The club still hopes to sell Braithwaite, who is in the sights of Valencia, Celta Vigo and Brighton. But with a salary of 4 million euros per year, he is in no hurry to leave. This does not help the business of the club, where his contract runs until 2024. As with the Dane, Barça may have headaches with Clement Lenglet. He also earns a good salary and Sport indicates that this is an obstacle for the moment for his suitors. Tottenham is one of them. Sevilla also dreams of his return, but for the moment it remains financially complicated.

Barcelona could be forced to separate from elements with high market value as Frenkie de Jong, courted by Paris, Manchester United or Bayern Munich. The only problem is that the Dutchman is not willing to leave. He wants to succeed at Barça and complete his contract, which runs until 2026. The same goes for Memphis Depay. Xavi is not against keeping him, but the club wants to sell him. Problem, the former player of the OL does not want to leave and wants to go to the end of his contract, which runs until 2023. Depay has made great financial efforts to sign at Barça and he hopes for a gesture in return, staying next year. The headache is just beginning for Barça!
