Mbappé, Benzema, messages that speak volumes

Hero of the victory snatched by Olympique Lyonnais in Monaco, Sunday, Rayan Cherki has marked the spirits.

Rayan Cherki waited for the best moment to open his account in Ligue 1. Able to score a hat-trick in the French Cup for his second start with Olympique Lyonnais, the young striker had to play his 33rd game to finally score his first goal in the league. A first goal that will remain in the memories since it offered to the Gones a capital victory in Monaco at the end of a match with rebounds.

With this goal, the native of Givors also entered the annals of the Lyon club by becoming the second youngest player in the history of the club to score in Ligue 1. At 17 years and 258 days, he is only ahead of Bernard Lacombe, who opened his account at 17 years and 114 days. He is however better than Fleury Di Nallo (18 years and 10 days) or Karim Benzema (18 years and 75 days). Moreover, with 7 goals in all competitions, he is the first player to post such a total before his 18th birthday since a certain Kylian Mbappé.

Mbappé approves
The hero of the day obviously did not sulk his pleasure after the game. « I am happy. I hope there will be many more. I thank above all my team for having made so much effort so that we can win this game », he enjoyed himself at the microphone of Canal+, taking care to underline the strength of character of Lyon: « We gave everything. That’s what we told ourselves in the locker room, to give everything and not to make any calculations. We wanted to take revenge for the French Cup. It was fulfilled.  »

And Rayan Cherki repeated his happiness a little later on Instagram. « Proud to have scored my first goal in Ligue 1, » he wrote, drawing congratulations from several of his teammates including Memphis Depay or Mattia De Sciglio. But the Lyonnais are not the only ones to have praised the performance of the native of Givors. It was the same for Karim Benzema, a former member of the house, who threw a « Well seen » to which he replied with a « Thank you boss » that says a lot about the trace left by KB9 at the OL, but also Kylian Mbappé. « Yes yes, » wrote the Frenchman, who therefore knows about precocity, and must also be relieved to see AS Monaco lose ground in the race for the title.
