Mercato: FC Barcelona launches its final sprint

Launched in the final sprint of the mercato, FC Barcelona is on all fronts. Three arrivals are still hoped for by the management, which aims in particular a former PSG player.

A false start. This weekend, FC Barcelona started its 2022-23 season with a disappointing draw against Rayo Vallecano (0-0). What pushes the management to accelerate on the transfer market, while several recruits have already come to fill the ranks of the blaugrana team this summer. Indeed, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen, Frank Kessié, Jules Koundé, as well as Ousmane Dembélé, who has extended, are the reinforcements offered to Xavi. But the Spanish coach wants more.

Three to be precise. In the left-back position, Marcos Alonso (Chelsea) should arrive very quickly. On Friday, Thomas Tuchel indicated that the Spaniard was finalizing his departure. The Iberian press mentioned an arrival in the week. In midfield, it is still Bernardo Silva who is the No. 1 option. Sport recalls that the player already has a pre-agreement with the Culés for several weeks. Once its wage bill is reduced, Barça can complete this operation.

Three recruits wanted by Xavi

In any case, this is the promise that has been made to the player of Manchester City. However, the Skyblues, who are asking for €94 million, are firm for the moment. But Sport assures that the FCB think they can complete the transfer for a sum of about 60 M€. Finally, the Catalans want a right-back. Several profiles are being studied and the priority is Thomas Meunier. Sport reports that the Blaugrana are making progress but do not want to put more than 10 M€.

But Dortmund will not let go unless they receive an interesting offer. The Germans hope to get at least €15 million, plus bonuses, for the player under contract until 2024. Other elements, namely Frimpong (Leverkusen), Foyth (Villarreal), Wan Bissaka and Dalot (Manchester United), are targeted in case of failure according to the Spanish media. But it is Thomas Meunier who is the priority. Joining Barcelona would be a great opportunity for the Red Devil, globally disappointing at BVB. But before being able to complete the arrivals, Barça will have to clear the air.

Barça enters the war with Braithwaite

The Iberian club is hopeful to separate from Memphis Depay, who is approaching Juventus. On the other hand, the other files are still as complex. Not necessarily pushed to the exit, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is the priority of Thomas Tuchel, wants to stay. Regarding Frenkie de Jong, also courted by the Blues, or Martin Brathwaite, Barça is still struggling. The Dutchman does not intend to leave. The Dane, however, is in conflict with his management. According to Sport, his entourage is not against a termination of contract but does not want to make any gift.

The player wants to recover money and his representatives want to charge everything. Annoyed, Barcelona is studying several options with its lawyers to break his contract and avoid giving him money. Sport adds that Barcelona, irritated by his attitude, is ready to go to war with him and is considering terminating his lease unilaterally on the last day of the mercato so that the Dane will struggle to find a club. The mercato is far from over in Catalonia.
