Premier League: Chelsea officially qualified for Champions League, Everton maintained after beating Crystal Palace

By taking a point at home against Leicester (1-1) Chelsea will be in the Champions League in the autumn. Meanwhile, Everton is assured of playing in the Premier League next season after its home comeback at the expense of Crystal Palace (3-2).

Three late Premier League games were played this Thursday evening before the 38th and last day, which will be played as a multiplex this Sunday at 5 pm. We start this tour of England at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea hosting Leicester (27th round). Two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, Chelsea had to take at least one point to secure the last step of the podium at the end of the season. To do so, they had to defeat the Foxes, who opened the score early on thanks to a superb goal by James Maddison (0-1, 7th).

The defenders, who have been involved in 30% of Chelsea’s goals this season, were once again involved: Reece James crossed at the back post for Marcos Alonso, who scored with a beautiful volley (1-1, 34′). In the second half, the Blues clearly dominated the game but missed several chances, whether Romelu Lukaku (62nd) and Christian Pulisic (63rd), or deflected by Kasper Schmeichel, who made five saves in 90 minutes. With this draw, Chelsea is assured to finish in third place, taking advantage of a goal difference largely superior to that of Spurs (+42 against +24). Leicester gains one place and moves up to 9th in the ranking.

Everton’s comeback, Burnley’s revival

In the other two games of the evening, two teams still fighting for survival were also playing late matches: Everton (16th) hosted Crystal Palace while Burnley (18th) travelled to Aston Villa. The Toffees started their game very badly against the Eagles, scoring twice in the first half thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta (0-1, 21st) and Jordan Ayew (0-2, 36th). After the break, Michael Keane reduced the score before the hour mark (1-2, 54th). Richarlison finally put the two teams back on level terms in the last 15 minutes (2-2, 76th).

The fans even invaded the Goodison Park pitch for a few minutes after the third goal signed by Dominic Calvert-Lewin (3-2, 85th). A victory that allows Frank Lampard’s players to stay in the Premier League after a more than complicated season. On their side, the Clarets, on the green rectangle of the Villa Park, surprised the Villans (without Coutinho or Ings, on the bench) thanks to the penalty converted by Ashley Barnes just before the break (0-1, 45th). However, the Birmingham club put the score back to zero just after the break through Emiliano Buendia (1-1, 48th). The score remained unchanged, despite the dismissal of Matthew Lowton in the extra time (1-1). Burnley remains at one point of the zone and will play its maintenance against Newcastle, Villa will finish the season in the second part of the table.
