Things are looking up for Ocon

Sunday, during the 3rd GP of the season in Portimao Alpine has once again made a good impression. The new French team had a good race with a 7th and 8th place, which should lead to good results for the future, especially for the Frenchman Esteban Ocon.

On one of the most popular circuits of the season for drivers, it was the French team that came out on top in the middle of the pack. The Alpine team, which is part of the Renault group’s sporting entity, achieved everything on Sunday in Portugal. Its two blue cars finished in the points in 7th and 8th place, with a gap of one second between the two drivers, Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso.

Alpine has achieved a good result, taking valuable points in the fight for a good place in the constructors’ standings. This is essential for the team based between Enstone and Viry-Châtillon, which has to be in the fight with the teams in the middle of the field. It now has 13 points and is ahead of its direct rivals, namely Alpha Tauri and its nine points, most of which were scored by Pierre Gasly, and the five points of Aston Martin, the new team of four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Ocon keeps the advantage over Alonso
But, while the French team has decided to replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren by recalling the world champion Fernando Alonso, it is Esteban Ocon who is currently making the best impression on the blue cars. After a complicated start to the season, when the Frenchman finished 13th in Sakhir, he has since recovered. In Imola, he showed a progression with his 9th place, finally signing a first race in the points. But, it is finally in Portimao that he was able to show all his talent.

After a successful qualifying session, with a 6th place on the grid, the native of Evreux was able to prove that the team could fight with the best. Indeed, after having passed his compatriot Pierre Gasly, as well as Carlos Sainz Jr, the Norman resisted the return of his former teammate Daniel Ricciardo at the wheel of his McLaren. It was an auspicious race for Ocon, who once again finished ahead of his teammate Fernando Alonso, and proved that Alpine can join the fight with the others, finishing ahead of the Spaniard’s Ferrari and the Australian’s McLaren.
